Product Description

Dora has a rich ecosystem of microfauna, meiofauna, macrofauna, and plants. All of which help create a stable system that handles ammonia, nitrites, and nitrates well.

She runs with a large canister filter, which I can clear out about once a month or two, just because I like to see what's going on in there, and I use it to enrich and feed some of my live cultures. I make it available in case you want to seed your system with the incredible diversity of life that calls Dora home. I can't guarantee that it will 'instantly cycle' your tank, as that depends on so so many factors, and I'm not yet convinced that you can instantly cycle a tank at all. However, if you're interested, here are Dora's water parameters, the more similar your setup is, the more likely it is to help:

  • 25C (76F) water temperature
  • pH around 6.75
  • GH and KH both between 2-4 degrees

In terms of the life you might find included:

  • Bacteria and archaea, that I don't have the equipment to do an analysis of
  • Microfauna like paramecia, rotifera, vorticella, and gastrotricha
  • Meiofauna like detritus worms, blackworms, copepods, ostracods, amphipods, moina, and daphnia
  • Macrofauna like neocaridina shrimplets (some very orange ones) and snail hatchlings

You can filter out the macrofauna if you'd like, or ask me if you'd like me to filter them out for you and I'll do my best.

Comes as about 1/3 cup of solid mulm-y culture, packed in about a cup of mulm-y water.
